The Bible talks often about angels. They are God’s messengers and servants. They appear in both the Old and New Testaments. People in the Bible sometimes saw angels in visions, and sometimes in real life.
One important verse is from the book of Psalms. It tells us that God sends angels to help and protect people who obey Him.
“For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.” (Psalm 91:11)
This shows us that angels are not just heavenly beings. They are active in the world and have work to do for God.
What Are Angels?
Angels are created beings. God made them before He made the world. They are not people who died and went to heaven. They are different from humans.
They do not have physical bodies like us. But they can appear in human form when God sends them to speak with people.
The Bible says angels are very strong. They carry out God’s commands with power and speed.
“Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.” (Psalm 103:20)
This means angels listen to God and do exactly what He says.
What Do Angels Do?
Angels serve God in many ways. One of their main jobs is to deliver messages from God. That is why they are often called messengers.
For example, the angel Gabriel came to Mary to tell her she would have a baby, Jesus.
“And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.” (Luke 1:30)
Angels also protect people. In the book of Daniel, an angel shut the mouths of lions so they would not hurt Daniel.
“My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me.” (Daniel 6:22)
They also praise God all the time in heaven.
Are There Different Kinds of Angels?
Yes, the Bible talks about different types of angels. Some are called cherubim and seraphim.
Cherubim are first mentioned in the book of Genesis. God placed them at the gate of the Garden of Eden after Adam and Eve were sent out.
“So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims… to keep the way of the tree of life.” (Genesis 3:24)
Seraphim are found in the book of Isaiah. They are seen worshiping God and saying that He is holy.
“And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.” (Isaiah 6:3)
There are also archangels. Michael is called an archangel. He is a warrior angel who fights for God.
Can We See Angels?
Most of the time, we cannot see angels. They are spirits. But sometimes God allows people to see them.
Many people in the Bible saw angels in dreams or in visions. Others saw them with their eyes during special times.
The Bible says that some people have helped angels and did not even know it.
“Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” (Hebrews 13:2)
This shows that angels can appear in a way that looks like an ordinary person.
Should We Pray to Angels?
The Bible never tells us to pray to angels. They are God’s servants, not gods themselves.
We should only pray to God. Angels are happy to serve God and help people, but they do not want to be worshipped.
In the book of Revelation, an angel tells John not to worship him.
“See thou do it not: for I am thy fellow servant… worship God.” (Revelation 22:9)
This is clear. Angels are not to be worshipped or prayed to.
