“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

This short verse from the Bible tells us a lot about the human condition.

It says that every person, no matter who they are, has done something wrong in the eyes of God.

It also reminds us that we are all in need of God’s help.

The Bible gives us clear teaching on what sin is and how God has made a way for us to be saved.

What Is Sin?

Sin is anything we do that goes against God’s will.

It includes actions, thoughts, and even attitudes that do not follow God’s commands. The Bible says,

“Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.” (1 John 3:4)

This means sin is not only breaking rules but turning away from God’s ways.

Sin is not only doing bad things like lying or stealing.

It is also failing to do what is right when we know we should.

God is holy and perfect, so even one sin separates us from Him.

The Origin of Sin

Sin entered the world through the first humans, Adam and Eve.

God gave them a beautiful garden and told them not to eat from one tree. But they disobeyed.

When they chose their own way instead of God’s way, sin came into the world.

“Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned.” (Romans 5:12)

Because of this first act of disobedience, every person is now born with a sinful nature.

This is why we all struggle with selfishness, pride, anger, and other wrong desires.

The Results of Sin

Sin has serious results. It separates us from God and brings both physical and spiritual death.

Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

The word “wages” means what we earn or deserve. What we deserve because of sin is death.

This includes not just dying physically, but being apart from God forever.

Sin also causes pain and suffering in the world.

It breaks our relationships, fills the world with violence, and brings guilt and shame.

The Promise of Redemption

Even though sin entered the world through Adam, God made a promise to fix what was broken.

From the very beginning, He had a plan to save people. That plan was through Jesus Christ.

Jesus lived a perfect life without sin, yet He died on the cross to take the punishment we deserved.

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

Redemption means being bought back or rescued.

Jesus paid the price with His own blood so we could be forgiven and made right with God.

When we trust in Him, we are no longer judged by our sins.

How to Receive Redemption

Redemption is a gift, not something we earn.

We receive it by turning away from sin and believing in Jesus. This is called repentance and faith.

Acts 3:19 says, “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”

To repent means to be sorry for your sins and to want to live differently.

To have faith in Jesus means to trust Him alone to save you.

When we do this, we are forgiven, given a new heart, and made part of God’s family.

Redemption brings peace with God and hope for eternal life.

It also gives us the power to live in a new way.
